Everyone wants to keep our City looking beautiful.  To that end, the City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 968 amending Chapter 9 of the Callaway Code of Ordinances concerning garbage and refuse collection.  The Ordinance requires that all residents place their garbage securely within a metal or hard plastic container(s) and store out of public view until time for collection.  Specifically, the Ordinance states that “garbage containers shall not be placed by the street for collection before 12:00 p.m. on the day before the designated collection day and shall be removed within twenty-four (24) hours.”  For yard debris and large items collected by the City, it states that residents “shall not place the trash by the street before 12:00 p.m. on the Saturday before the designated collection day.”  

The goal of the City is to minimize the chance of garbage becoming a hazard or nuisance by being scattered, emptied, or left in the street right-of-way. We’re committed to providing a clean, healthy, and safe place for our residents and customers.

Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping is prohibited and violators are subject to a $500 fine. It is considered illegal dumping if you are dumping without an utility account with the city or if an account holder is depositing trash generated from another location.

Excessive Trash Resolution
On April 12, 2011 the City Commission passed a resolution to Ordinance 632 to set a maximum quantity of all solid waste to be collected by the City per week at any one collection point and established fees for excess trash removal.  The maximum quantity of trash shall be a volume of 3.5 cubic yards (Approximately 4’ x 4’ x 6’ pile), as long as said volume of trash does not exceed 1,000 pounds in weight.  Tree limbs exceeding four (4) inches in diameter must be shorter than four (4) feet in length to be collected.  Removal of solid waste exceeding the maximum allowed quantity will be subject to the following fee schedule based upon a cubic yard volume:

You will be notified if your solid waste exceeds the maximum volume with a door knocker.  Please contact the City to schedule a pickup.  You will be required to sign a trash removal form that states fee for removal.  Once the form is signed a City representative will schedule your pickup.  The fee will be added to your monthly bill.  Please call 850-871-1033 if you have any questions.
